Island Life and Summer Vibes from Humble Quilts

This past week Cory and I got to enjoy a week on Kauai in Hawaii. This was one island we said we'd like to visit next. It was beautiful.

We were looking for Hee Fat General Store and found Vicky's Fabrics by accident! (website HERE) It was small but packed a big punch! The employees were very pleasant and it looked like a backbone of community events. (I love that!)

Here's a look around.

This was a lovely new line of fabric called Indigo Blooming by Debby Maddy. See it HERE.

Yes, please!

If you are ever ...

My week from Wendy's Quilts and More

Another week has passed and I still haven't managed to get back to my sewing machine.  I have been  cross stitching in the evenings though, and I've finished the First Day of Christmas by Hello from Liz Mathews.

I still need to turn it into a 3D tree, but at the moment it's just waiting on the finishing pile.  I love the linen I chose for this one - it's 32 count Wichelt linen in a lovely pale green.

Cyclone Gabrielle passed over New Zealand on Monday and Tuesday and the Hawke's Bay suffered terrible flooding ...

Grandmother's Flower Garden and 'Radio Problems' from The Chester County Criswell Quilt

This Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt was offered as a kit to purchase in 1933.  I like the idea of swooning over hundreds of pre-cut hexagons. And the price can't be beaten!

If ...

Summertime- ♫Let's Take A Walk on the Wild Side♫ from Humble Quilts

Happy Friday friends! If you've been following me this week you must know by now that I contracted Covid. So thankful I've been building my immune system and that this variant didn't give me severe symptoms. (generally) I was in the airports and airplanes for 12 hours on Friday. and really, how can you avoid people in these situations? Anyhoo.... Started getting a scratchy throat on Sunday evening, Monday I thought I was getting a summer cold- I worked for a little bit (unknowingly exposed my brother to C19 and now he is down) washed my windows ...

Fun on Friday! from Humble Quilts

Dotti, I saved the claret strips for you but they are still sitting here. Do you still want them?

Everyone who has asked and paid for a block has a block in the mail to them. This turned out to be an international swap! Whoop! Whoop! Canada, Australia, Germany and France all will be participating. I hope the blocks arrive in a reasonable amount of time.

It's not too late if you would like an antique block from me. Check it out HERE for more info.

I had this lovely comment left on an older post about wool applique ...

Sum..Sum.Summertime! Summer Sampler.. from Humble Quilts

I finally got around to opening my July sampler from Two Thimbles! The fabrics are Petite Perennials by Annette Plog. She has a new book out as well. These particular fabrics will not be available from Two Thimbles until August, unless you are on her sampler program.

These 2 are my favs from this month.

Now that the crazy heat wave is gone we are back to normal summer weather. This is tolerable! Here on the high desert we cool down at night and have lovely mornings.

And since the sampler was Petite Perennials I thought I'd show you ...

Scrappy Quilts, Scrappy Life from Humble Quilts

I mentioned to Lizzy that I should do an outdoor post about what is growing in my garden. Late spring is peak because the long hot days haven't arrived yet and plants are enjoying lovely days sprinkled with bouts of rain.
I realized my garden style mimics my quilts! Free flowing, humble and scrappy!
Feel free to scroll past all the flowers to the video at the end of this post.

Instead of dirt or weeds we planted wildflowers. Flax is always dependable.

And yarrow, which is natural to this area.

These lupine are natural to the area as ...

"She" tried!!! from Appalachian Quilts

We got hit with a surprise snow.  Mother Nature was up to her usual tricks of trying to put a bump in my road.  Usually if your trees or veggies have put out buds, you will lose them.  It has caused many a farmer concern about how much fruit they will lose.  Not the case in my strawberry bed.  Look at all the blooms!

As the saying goes, it was like these strawberries said "here, hold my beer".  I was a tad anxious when I went out to check them, but all is well.  They need thinned AGAIN!  I'm ...

Central Oregon Flora from Humble Quilts

I shared Fauna earlier this week, and I was spraying my flowers with stinky deterrent to keep the fawns from snacking too much and thought I'd share what's in bloom around my house. It's a mixed bag- kind of like my quilts.
I was also playing with the "portrait" setting on my iphone.
These self seed and grow like weeds.

I have lavender, lavender, lavender. Deer proof and spreads like crazy!

I have an area out front with a variety of wildflowers, including Ratibida Columnifera known as Mexican Hat.
Such a charming sweet flower.

Peekaboo!

Saw this ...

Oops! I did it again! from Appalachian Quilts

(Now I can't get that song out of my head!)

I told you I was going to need an intervention, but you didn't believe me.  The thing about being a gardener is you sit all winter and wish it was spring/summer.  You plan for all the things you will grow.  You plan for all the new things you have never tried.  You think about past successes and failures.  Then those seed catalogs start coming.  You envision your garden somewhat like this:

Of course, yours never quite makes it to this status.  (and if yours does, KUDOS!)  They ...
